Superintendent Hite & Mayor Kenney recognize Universal Alcorn, Bluford and Creighton for Academic Achievement

MAYOR JIM KENNEY AND SUPERINTENDENT WILLIAM HITE ACKNOWLEDGED UNIVERSAL FAMILY OF SCHOOLS FOR RECEIVING TOP HONORS ON SCHOOL DISTRICT OF PHILADELPHIA PROGRESS REPORT

PHILADELPHIA— Today, Superintendent Hite and Mayor Kenney recognized Universal Alcorn, Universal Bluford and Universal Creighton for achieving academic success during the 2016-2017 School Progress Awards Ceremony at Potter-Thomas Elementary School.

The School Progress Report (SPR) is an innovative tool designed to help us support, respond to, and improve our schools. The SPR reflects our core belief that all students deserve to attend great schools and that we must hold ourselves to a standard of equitable educational excellence. The SPR enables us to both see whether we are meeting this standard, and to track progress and growth of students against the District’s anchor goals.

During the Awards Ceremony, Universal Alcorn, Universal Bluford and Universal Creighton were lauded for being Peer Leaders in their respective education grouping. Most recently, the three Renaissance Charter Schools outperformed other charters across the commonwealth of Pennsylvania: Universal Creighton outperformed 84% of charter schools across the state on the 2017 PA School Performance Profile (SPP), Universal Bluford outperformed 78% of charter schools across the state on the 2017 SPP; moving from 22nd percentile rank in 2016 to 78th percentile rank in 2017 and Universal Alcon outperformed 73% of charter schools across the state; going from 37th percentile rank in 2016 to 73rd percentile rank in 2017.
